Start your engines!

Pull that seat belt tight and hold onto the steering wheel.  This isn't you everyday go kart racing.  This year we held a company outing at Rush Hour Karting in Garner, North Carolina. The facility is conveniently located near I-40 and 70 just southeast of Raleigh.

The indoor track offers a tight-turning yet passable course that can comfortably hold 10-12 cars at a time.  A typical loop around the track takes about 30-32 seconds with the best time (as of the writing of this post) being 29.999 seconds.  Next time I'm there you can bet I'll be gunning for that time!

The cars have excellent pickup and will hold the corners.  In talking with the folks that work there new cars have arrived and we can expect better racing and more speed within the next week.

We really enjoyed the facility.  The serve food and beverages and there is a bar for after race get together.

We made reservations on a weekend to run their Grand Prix race which consists of a practice round, qualifying, a race, then a final race.  All told it was about 31 minutes of racing which was enough.   This isn't your bee-bop around the track.  It is a workout!  Let me say that again....workout.  So be prepared to work those muscles throughout as the G forces push you around the corners and you work the steering wheel.

My only negative was the ventilation.  They have numerous fans inside that bring in fresh air and they keep the doors open.  Regardless, these are combustion engines which produce exhaust and at times it was a little much.  Still, it was my second time there and I loved it.  We will be back for sure!

Tips:

  • Get 5 or more folks and make reservations, especially on the weekend.  It can get crowded.
  • Take some fluids with you - especially if it is hot outside.  You are going to sweat.
  • Taking an extra set of clothes is not a bad idea.
