Hot & Humid in the South

If you live in the hot and humid South like I do, you know we’ve got a whole host of weather related issues to deal with – beauty wise. Today, I’d like to talk about the embarrassment of wearing those short sleeve shirts and lifting your arm to wave hello only to get that unpleasant smell of….yourself! I’m not a smelly woman and I don’t sweat unless I’m working out, but these summers are sure killers for those of us that don’t want to offend ourselves. I tried so many anti-perspirant/deodorants that promised to get stronger as I moved or sense when I was starting to sweat. Some worked. By worked, I mean, the deodorant fragrance got really strong as the day wore on. Unfortunately, that fragrance mixed in with the sweat smell to create an even worse odor!

I tried not allowing my arms to hit my sides in hopes that if skin didn’t touch, I couldn’t possibly sweat in this humid weather. I know, silly me. I tried those expensive prescription strength anti-perspirant /deodorants. Have you read the instructions on those? Use every other day and at night. Ok, so what do I do if actually shower every day? Assume that every other day I will be stinky? I also shower in the morning, so if I use it at night, aren’t I just washing it off during my morning shower? I guess I could have worked around those issues if these actually worked.

As time wore on, I became more and more self-conscious. My husband and I moved to a new community, so we are trying to make new friends. Would this prevent us from making friends? Finally, on a whim, my husband was placing a drugstore.com order and asked if I needed anything. I rattled off a bunch of items and then told him to look up some strong deodorant? We found Certain Dri A.M. Roll-on*. I’m not a fan of roll-ons because my underarms are wet for a good amount of time. Day one, I did the inconspicuous check at the grocery store and nothing (except a few strange looks from other shoppers). That night, another check. Again, no smell! After a few days, I decided to get in a good workout in the morning. Remember, I showered the morning before, so I didn’t think the Certain Dri would still be working. Sweaty workout complete and time for the check – finally! I found something that works. It may seem like such a trivial issue, but it really was causing me distress when I was out in public.(Yes, I also didn’t want to scare my husband away either.)

So, problem #1 (beauty-wise) of living in the South solved. Next issue – how to deal with my baby fine/limp hair when we have extremely hard water.

The best price I’ve found for this was on drugstore.com.
