Moles & Vols & Grubs, Oh My!
You spend a considerable amount of time taking care of your lawn only to have those pesky, unwanted guests chewing through your roots! Both invasive, both destroy your lawn if left unchecked. So what do you do?
The first question is what attracted them in the first place? Moles eat both earthworms and grubs. Now, you're not going - nor should you - get rid of earth worms. They are very beneficial to your lawn and plants. Grubs, on the other hand, are something you can address. One method is to apply a product to your lawn such a Scotts GrubEx. I've used it on my lawn and found it effective in reducing the grubs.
Your second option is to use some type of trap. But, let's be honest, you aren't trapping anything. You are killing it. The scissor trap, when used correctly has been effective for me.
Moles are a war of attrition. You have to stay on top of the situation and continue to stay on top of it. There will not be a single, magical answer to the problem. Explore various options and keep up the pressure.
Even after you see no evidence or moles or voles in your yard, you'll need to continue to pay attention as they are very territorial and can easily return.
Good luck, and keep up the fight!
